Novice (Beginner) – No previous experience, suitable for those starting a forklift training course.
Experienced (No Formal Training) – For operators requiring structured onsite forklift training to enhance their skills.
Refresher (Renewal) – Aimed at maintaining safe working practices, including order picker training for continued proficiency.
Our forklift training course combines theory and practical instruction, including onsite forklift training, and is delivered in line with current UK health and safety guidance. This approach helps employers meet their responsibilities under workplace safety regulations, including those related to order picker training.
In our comprehensive forklift training course, we cover essential topics such as hazard awareness and the operator safety code. Participants will engage with a safety video and knowledge check, receive an introduction to the forklift truck, and learn daily pre-use inspections along with basic maintenance. Our onsite forklift training includes understanding controls and instruments, assessing load weight, and applying stability principles. We emphasize safe starting, moving, and stopping techniques, as well as manoeuvring in both open and confined areas. Trainees will also operate hydraulic controls, handle loaded and unloaded pallets, and practice stacking and de-stacking at various heights. Additionally, the course covers loading and unloading procedures, culminating in a practical operating assessment. For those interested in specialized skills, our order picker training is also available, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all necessary operational competencies.
Operators must be at least 16 years old.
Refresher training is recommended every 3–5 years, or after:
- An accident
- A long period without operating equipment
Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER), employers must ensure all operators receive adequate training, including a comprehensive forklift training course.
Training is delivered in line with guidance set out in L117 Rider-operated lift trucks Approved Code of Practice and guidance.
Our onsite forklift training courses are designed to help businesses meet these requirements through practical, workplace-based instruction.
